Bioinformatics

The mandate of the Board is to train reseachers and conduct research in various areas of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Recognizing the progress made by the Board of Bioinformatics under the BioNome Private Limited, Bangalore, India.

The Board initiated various services and program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in 2020 supported by the Council of Life Science, New Delhi under the scheme of “Innovative Programme - Teaching & Research in Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas”. For advanced research in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, the Bioinofrmatics board started Research Projects  Programme in 2020 for novel research and development for the emerging researchers.

All students, research scholars and faculty are provided round-the-clock computing facility. The Centre has established a separate wet lab facility with sophisticated equipments. Most of the past students have been placed in various leading research institutions and industries.

During this period, the Board has taken up research activities in the areas of molecular evolution, systems biology, molecular modeling, structural biology, database development etc., and several papers have been published in highly reputed International and National Journals.

Genomics

The Department of Genome Sciences is committed to creating an environment that is welcoming and inclusive. Our main objective is to create a place of learning and working where all members can thrive and where diversity is recognized and celebrated. At Genome Sciences, we aim to create supportive spaces for those who are marginalized in higher education or society.

Functional genomics attempts to make use of the vast wealth of data produced by genomic projects (such as genome sequencing) to describe the functions and interactions of genes and proteins.

Structural genomics seeks to describe the three-dimensional structure of every protein encoded by a given genome.

Epigenomics is the study of the complete set of epigenetics. Epigenetics is the study of how changes in the way genes are expressed can change organisms and not simply change the genes themselves. Epigenomics studies how epigenetic changes result in changes to a cell’s genetic material.

Faculty apply all of these approaches to investigate the structure, function, and evolution of biological networks in a broad range of experimental systems spanning bacteria, invertebrates, vertebrates, mammals, and plants.

Faculty and Research in Genomics and Systems Biology is conducted at the Board for Genomics and Systems Biology, which houses the research labs and core facilities. The Board of Genomics also sponsors educational activities and events such as seminars and courses in Genomics and Systems Biology.

Project Management

Programme management is a structured framework for defining and implementing change within an organization. It provides a framework for implementing business strategies and initiatives through the management of a portfolio of projects that give organizations the capability to achieve benefits that are of strategic importance. All large programmes should have recognized programme management methodologies with relevant governance and responsibilities defined.

Programmes consist of a number of projects and project management provides the means for managing and co-ordinating project outputs and capabilities to deliver benefits.

Effective management of projects is an essential element of resource control. It is vital that departments have in place robust, proactive systems for project management, to ensure that projects are managed satisfactorily and within budget. Evidence of effective project management systems under implementation will be a factor in considering projects for approval and in setting revised delegated limits.

At BioNome, careful monitoring and control of project activity is required. Action is necessary to manage risks, issues, quality and configuration. Upon completion the project should be closed in a controlled manner and a post project review must be carried out to confirm the realization of project benefits. An end project report should also be completed including lessons learned.
